Record labels: Major vs Minor

In the music industry there is a clear divide between the major record labels and the indie ones. The indie labels are not as well known as the major but give the public and alternative taste to music instead of the mainstream videos and music which they feed the public.

You have some bands which have never been heard of which are classed as the minor record label or the indie label and then you have the ones which have the major record labels.

Some bands under the major record label:

3. EMI Group

The EMI Group is the third biggest major record label in music sales. They accounted for 13.4% of the market in 2005. The group's well-known label imprints include Astralwerks, Capitol, EMI, Mute, and Virgin. Key artists are:

Planning

<This is our initial planning where we decided on what we are doing for the music video project. We have decided to shoot our planning in a video since this adds a multi media concept to my blog making my blog more interesting and lively.

This video describes everything, which we are planning on doing for the project including the people, which we are going to use to the setting and song for our video.

Trying out Fonts

These are a few fonts which we have found and may use for our final piece. We have got a wide variety of different fonts meaning that we have a lot more flexibility with what we do. We have asked a few people and have narrowed the choice down to about three but we are not entirely sure yet and don’t believe we can make our decision this early on in the project. We have decided to look at different font this early since a font can do a lot for the presentation of a piece and we believe that it is important to look at the fonts at an early stage to help it influence our front cover.

This is one of the three fonts which we have shortlisted in order to narrow down the selection.

This is also another font which we may be inclined to use for our work with the digi-pak.

This is the font which i am personally most interested in since it is a very simple styled font and would fit well on our front cover. In this case i believe that less means more.

Post-Modernism

Post modernism:

Post modernism is the phase in which a single piece of work is taken and used as a base in order to make new work which hasn’t been seen before making it new and a new trend. Many things have been said and used before so there is a need for individuals to create new pieces of work based on existing pieces which makes it post-modern, post-modernism actually refers to the stage where the piece of work has not yet become recognised as a piece yet but is setting the pathway for a new trend.

In order to understand post modernism you may first need to understand modernism. Modernism is the stage before post modernism and refers to things which are in the norm or the trend which has been set. Post modernism is a breaking of these trends and the making of a new one .It is very important for things to keep on changing since if material becomes to overused it can become stale and boring therefore something out of the norm will be used to reignite peoples imagination and create something new and exciting.

This is from a post I found from the internet explaining the definition of Postmodernism.

In theory all post modernism is, is just a remix of what has been created before making it a new and fresh idea for people to grasp. For example many films have very similar plots and the simple reason is there are only so many ideas in the world and some will have to be used again so why not make them different and unique?
An example of the idea of post modernism is Avatar and FurnGully. Avatar has made an almost exact replica of the film FurnGully but has just added modern CGI effects to make it appear different. The rough plot is exactly the same the only difference is one is set on another planet.

Plot for FurnGully:

The magical inhabitants of a rain-forest fight to save their home, which is threatened by logging and a polluting force of destruction called Hexxus.

Plot for Avatar:

A paraplegic Marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home

The film is set in the mid-22nd century, when humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on Pandora, a lush habitable moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of a local tribe of Na'vi – a humanoid species indigenous to Pandora.

The similarities are unreal. This is a perfect example of when something old is made into something which is completely new in order to create money and bring it up with the times. The film avatar pandered to the wants of many and made the theme of the film sci-fi. This then appeals to all of the fans of sci-fi but also appeals to all of the fans of action and adventure , and to add to that all of the fans of  the director and the CGI which is one of the main aspects to the film.

History

There is a relatively long past to the music video and it is still being debated today what the first music video actually was. Some claim it to be the blues of the deep south in America where the blues videos were shot more like movies however some others say that it was Bob Dylan’s short documentary don’t look back where the song Subterranean Homesick Blues.

Here is Bob Dylan’s documentary don’t look back with the song Subterranean Blues:

This is undoubtedly the first music video and definitely not the last. Since then the music video has been adapted to accommodate all genres of music and where the famous quote taken from the song "Video killed the radio star". The videos have just been getting more innovate and more unusual since then. Here are a couple of examples:

This is the first ever video to be shot entirely in space:

Here is another fun and inventive video:

The idea of the music video has changed so much since the first ever screening of one. This has given it time to adapt and change to latest trends making the video in some cases more popular than the actual song. This means for any project that an artist undertakes has to be a big one and for one simple reason, if you remember the video you will remember the song.

Throughout the years the music video has changed considerably and with it come re-inventions of original videos which is known as post-modernism. This means that many videos which have been made have had remixes of them made. This means that everything will eventually be copied or remixed since there isn't an unlimited source of new ideas and some will have to be based loosely on previous pieces of work.

For example -Weezers video "Pork and Beans"

This video made by Weezers features the entire previous internet stars from YouTube making this video one big remix. The video tasks the concept of Post-Modernism and changes it, meaning that all of the famous videos from YouTube have been taken and remade in order to feature within the music video. This video takes everyone's view on Post-Modernism and turns it on its head by showing sometimes remix's can make a video look better and not just a cheap imitation. The idea of this video is appealing to a wider audience since it has taken everything which people have liked and even loved in some cases into a single video attracting lovers of all of them YouTubers, Weezer and even that genre of music making it a very versatile music video.
